ALA Advocates were awarded Letters of Appreciation for Free Legal Aid provided after the Artsakh War

On 06.09.2021, The Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia organized an event to encourage lawyers who provided free legal aid to the families of servicemen killed, missing or wounded in the war of 2020.

Within the framework of the event, the Chairman of the RA Chamber of Advocates handed Letters of Appreciation to a number of advocates, among them the advocates of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association Vardanush Kavalyan and Gayane Gevorgyan.

It should be reminded that since the start of the second Artsakh war unleashed by Azerbaijan on 27 September, 2020, the ALA has been providing daily assistance to the families of servicemen killed, missing or wounded in the war, as well as to citizens forcibly displaced as a result of the war. Dozens of citizens were provided with free legal aid to restore their rights.

In addition to the provision of free consultations in receiving social assistance, the protection of the rights of the citizens displaced as a result of the Second Artsakh War was carried also carried out through the establishment of institutional units. In particular, due to the free legal assistance of the ALA, 7 non-governmental organizations have been submitted for state registration, the common goal of which is to protect the legitimate interests of the people of Artsakh who moved to Armenia and to make the solution of the Artsakh problem part of the agenda of international community. These non-governmental organizations have started their activities, they already have certain results. The list of these NGOs is presented below:

  • “De-occupation of Shushi” NGO
  • “Kumayri” Non-Governmental Organizations of Artsakh Armenians
  • “Harmony” Shushi Women NGO
  • “Return to Karvachar” NGO
