Moot court and a tour in the court: the ALA lawyer held an open lesson within the framework of “My Career” Summer School in Syunik

Mr. Vache Baghdasaryan, lawyer at the Kapan office of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, held an open legal course for schoolchildren within the framework of the “My Career” summer school organized by the “Rainbow” Leaders’ Educational Center NGO.

He presented to the school students the importance of the Constitution and laws, the basic human and civil rights and freedoms, the peculiarities of the formation and activity of the authorities. During the open lesson, the lawyer also spoke about the principles of the constitutional order, basic human and civil rights and freedoms, legislative, executive and judicial authorities, as well as the institution of the President of the Republic of Armenia, emphasizing their role and significance.

Vache Baghdasaryan also referred to the laws and legal acts, which are important both from the aspect of the protection of people’s fundamental rights, as well as the establishment of the state and the provision of legal security.

At the end of the meeting, the participants asked their questions related to the legal sphere to the lawyer.

The next day, on 15 July, a moot court was held in the ALA Kapan office, where the school students played the role of participants in the trial.

The moot court provided the students an opportunity to get some idea of the judicial process, in particular, the court hearings, their procedures, the rights and responsibilities of the participants in the trial and the judgments and verdicts made by the courts in various cases.

At the end of the day, the students of the school together with the lawyer also visited the Kapan residence of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Syunik Region, where they got acquainted with the court schedule, and the structure of the courtroom. They were introduced to the procedure and peculiarities of the court hearings taking place in the courtroom, which gave the students an opportunity to form a certain idea about the court hearings held in different cases by the court.

At the end of the meeting, Ms Susanna Martirosyan, head of the “Rainbow” Leaders’ Education Center NGO, thanked for the joint work, thanks to which the school students gained new knowledge and skills in the field of justice, as well as fundamental human and civil rights.
