Conference on “Reduction of Corruption Risks in Private Sector”

On 19 November, a conference on “Reduction of Corruption Risks in Private Sector” project took place. Mr. Artyom Mesropyan, Expert/Lawyer of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association NGO attended the conference as well. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Justice and VivaCell-MTS and had the objective to highlight the corruption risks that hinder the private sector and to develop simple, innovative and modern methods of neutralizing them.

During the conference, Ms  Narine Melikyan, the Chairwoman of the Corporate Governance Center presented the report on “Anti-Corruption Compliance in Business”.

The issues and proposals raised during the conference were related to tax and customs sectors; tightening of the procedures for providing licenses, permits; the procurement system, etc. The received proposals mainly provide for creation of electronic websites, platforms, chatbots and similar mechanisms that will make the services more accessible and informative.

It should be added that in the context of the study of international experience the electronic tools aimed at reducing corruption risks in the private sector in Armenia were also presented, including mentioning the website of the BizProtect ( https://www.bizprotect.am) operated by the Armenian Lawyers’ Association. It is an innovative web tool for analyzing key legal acts that hinder information collection and business development.

This material has been prepared in the scope of the “Armenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms” Project implemented by the “Center for International Private Enterprise”, the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO, the “Corporate Governance Center” NGO and the “Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry” with financial support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
