The oral round of the Republican Scientific Conference for Law Students “Judicial System: Current State and Prospects for its Development in the RA,” which was organized by the Law Foundation of Armenia and the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, held in the Yerevan Hotel, on July 15, 2005. The Conference was supported by the Armenian Office of ABA CEELI (American Bar Association Central and East European Law Initiative) and “Bookinist” book store. The authors of the five best reports presented their papers, which were evaluated by a panel of well-known Armenian lawyers and judges. The speakers touched on the problems that currently exist in the judicial system of the Republic of Armenia, with an emphasis on the problems which exist in daily courtroom business, in addition to the shortcomings and omissions in corresponding statutes. The law students further submitted their suggestions to improve the situation. The speakers also answered the very challenging and complex questions of the judges.
After that the organizers summed up the results of the conference.
Khachik Harutyunyan, a fourth-year student of the Law Department of Hrachya Acharyan University won the third prize of the Conference. Armine Avetisyan, a post-graduate student of the Law Department of Yerevan State University, received the second prize. Perch Khachatryan, a fourth-year student of the Law Department of Yerevan State University, was announced as the winner of the Conference. He was also awarded the special prize of the Conference, which was presented by the Director of “Bookinist” bookstore.
All the participants of the oral round were awarded encouragement prizes as well.
The judges appreciated the work and the efforts of the participants, and noted that the organization of such events helps to establish true and solid grounds for the development of legal education in Armenia, as well as educating highly professional lawyers.
