The Council on Women’s Issues was established on 21 November, 2019 by the decision N 1740-A of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The Council is chaired by RA Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan. The Council includes representatives from both government and the public sector.
The Armenian Lawyers’ Association is also a member of the Council on Women’s Issues, represented by legal expert Mariam Zadoyan. It should be noted that the selection of the members of the above mentioned Council was done by the NGOs themselves.
The Armenian Lawyers’ Association has always emphasized the protection of women’s rights. In particular, the organization actively participates in the roundtable discussions organized within the framework of the NA-CSO Open Platform.
In this context it is worth to underline the report “Prospects for Strengthening the Mechanisms for the Protection of Women’s Rights in Armenia” recently published by our organization. The report was prepared by the Armenian Lawyers’ Association within the framework of the European Union-funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue”. The report is dedicated to both systemic issues in the field of women’s rights protection and sectoral protection of women’s economic and labour rights, protection of women’s health (reproductive) rights, protection of women’s rights in the family, including in the context of property rights, and women’s political participation.
