On 11-17 March, 2019, the “Open Government Week” has been announced in all OGP countries and Armenia has also presented the series of events developed with OGP stakeholders. The first event was dedicated to the Register of Beneficial Owners. The representatives of civil society, public administration and media attended the event.
The aim of the event was to identify the steps and challenges to the creation and implementation of the Open Register of Beneficial Owners.
Representatives of the RA Ministry of Justice and other public administration bodies as well as civil society representatives made speeches.
In her speech lawyer Susanne Soghomonyan, member of Board of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, said that it’s time to take steps on legislative level aimed at entering information on the beneficial owners of all legal entities operating in Armenia in the Register of Beneficial Owners, and added that this is not a right, but an obligation for legal entities:
Notably, the Armenian Lawyers’ Association is the co-author of the commitment for the introduction of the Register of Beneficial Owners, which was included in the OGP Fourth Action Plan.
