The Armenian Lawyers’ Association will coordinate the Newly formed Working Group

On 4 December, Lusine Nalbandian, Lawyer/Expert of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association NGO, participated in the meeting-discussion held in the Traffic Police. Deputy Chief of Traffic Police Colonel Arthur Tonoyan, Head of the Legal Department of Traffic Police Arman Chilingaryan, Director of “Xdrive” Auto-Motorsport School Artashes Stepanyan, Management of “Dvin” Driving School, representatives of “Varord.am” and other individuals interested in the field were present at the meeting.

The meeting was aimed to involve stakeholders in the work carried out by the Traffic Police to make changes in a number of legislative and regulatory acts within the framework of the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive Partnership Agreement. In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the existing problems related to the issue of driving licenses, connected with the gaps in theoretical and practical questionnaires. The attendees came to an agreement that more emphasis should be made on road safety and full-fledged education of drivers. It was proposed to tighten the theoretical and practical exams procedures so that there were real guarantees for competent and ready drivers. Colonel Arthur Tonoyan, in his speech, welcomed the participation of all presenters, and noted that it is important to involve stakeholders in these activities. As a result, Artashes Stepanyan, the director of “Xdrive” Auto-Motorsport School, suggested first to create a working group of auto-schools representatives and then to submit a final proposal to the Traffic Police through additional regular meetings and discussions. Lusine Nalbandyan, Lusine Nalbandian, Lawyer/Expert of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association NGO, was elected Coordinator of the Working Group.

Arman Chilingaryan, the Head of the Legal Department of the Traffic Police added that the deadline for the EU commitments by Armenia is 1 June, 2019.  The attendees expressed willingness to work actively in the working group.
