On 26 September, representatives of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association NGO met in the focus group format with the SIGMA Expert Group of the Economic Cooperation and Development Organization. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the effectiveness of public sector involvement and tools in the process of developing and adopting public policies.
The ALA representatives introduced anti-corruption institutional reforms in Armenia in recent years initiated by the ALA, including criminalization of illicit enrichment, creation of an anti-corruption preventive body, introduction of the whistleblowers’ system, introduction of the beneficial ownership institute in the procurement sector, more than 100 proposals on business co-operation, some of which have been implemented, and the others are in the implementation phase, as well as changes and amendments in the property and income declaration system of high-ranking officials. The toolkit which ALA used to implement the lobbying and advocacy activities was presented as well.
The participants also presented the main challenges that currently exist in the process of developing and adopting public policies.
