Recommendations on the Reforms in Tax and Customs Legislation were presented to the Attention of Deputy Head of SRC

“Our objective is not only to criticize but to raise the issues and to solve them through the constructive dialogue,” Mr. Karen Zadoyan said today at the meeting with the Deputy Head of SRC Vakhtang Mirumyan, presenting the “Evidence-based Advocacy for Reforms” project and its objectives.

Mr. Zadoyan said that the project is implemented by the consortium of Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), Armenian Lawyers’ Association (ALA) and European Business Association (EBA) with financial support of the German International Cooperation (GIZ). It is implemented in the frameworks of “Support to SME Development in Armenia” (SMEDA) project, which is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Karen Zadoyan said that bizprotect.am innovative platform has already been launched, through which the representatives of businesses can apply and receive solutions in case of having problems in business. In addition they can apply anonymously and be confident that that their privacy is secured.

“As you know, the Government approved a legislative package on the Whistleblowers Institute, which our organization the Armenian Lawyers Association developed together with the Government and the CSOs’ Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia,” Karen Zadoyan said.

Recommendations on the reforms in tax and customs legislation were presented to the attention of Deputy Head of SRC.

Specifically, Mariam Zadoyan., Lawyer of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association introduced questions related with some provisions of the new Tax Code related with the threshold of the turnover tax, income tax and overpayments.

Arkadi Sahakyan, Lawyer of the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE) presented the proposals on providing tax exemptions and privileges for conducting activities in IT sector in border communities.

Other representatives of the business sector were present at the meeting as well and raised the issues of their concern.

Deputy Head of SRC Vakhtang Mirumyan presented the SRC Position related to each recommendation made and mentioned that any reasonable offer is acceptable for him and may be grounds for reconsidering their actions.

This project is implemented in the frameworks of “Support to SME Development in Armenia” (SMEDA) project.
