New rules of the game are set for Non-Governmental Organizations: they should re-register, change their statutes in accordance with the new NGO Law, and be accountable to the State Revenue Committee.
The new law establishes broad rights for NGOs, but at the same time there are certain responsibilities, and failure to fulfill them may cause serious problems. At the training organized for NGO representatives from Yerevan City, today, Mr. Marat Atovmyan, Local Expert of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, presented the legislative requirements and the challenges which the NGOs face in the practice and ways to avoid them.
For example, in his words, during the registration of legal entities in the State Register raises problems with the name of NGOs: the name of the NGO should be directly derived from its functions and preferably not include foreign-language words.
It is also important to note that the state authorized body responsible for supervision has changed. Formerly it was the Ministry of Justice, now the State Revenue Committee.
At the end of the training, most of the participants agreed to apply for advice aimed at the development of their NGOs.
The “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO in cooperation with its partners; Agora Central Europe o.p.s (an NGO from the Czech Republic), Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, “International Center for Human Development” Public Organization, SME Cooperation Association and Union of Communities of Armenia.
