Armenian Lawyers’ Association Board Member Astghik Matinyan Participated in the Discussion of Draft Amendments to the SJC Regulations

On November 8, 2024, a meeting-discussion on “New Procedure for Examining Appeals Against Supreme Judicial Council Decisions” was held at Ararat Resort Tsaghkadzor Hotel within the framework of the “Support to Judicial Reforms Implementation in Armenia” program by the Council of Europe’s Cooperation Programs Department. The discussion was attended by representatives of the RA Supreme Judicial Council (hereinafter: SJC), RA Judicial Department, CoE Office in Armenia, and civil society institutions. The meeting aimed to engage civil society in discussions of draft amendments to the Supreme Judicial Council’s regulations.

The Armenian Lawyers’ Association (hereinafter: ALA) was represented at the discussion by ALA Board Member Astghik Matinyan. The discussion primarily focused on the proposed changes to Chapter 8 of the SJC regulations. Proposals were made regarding the procedure for forming judicial panels for examining issues of disciplinary liability of judges, the lottery system, issues challenging the impartiality of panels, making reasoned decisions regarding candidates included in judges’ promotion lists, and other matters.
