The Investigative Committee is intolerant towards Illiteracy, Indiscipline and Lack of Diligence: Arsen Ayvazyan

“As it is known, 2 new codes came into force on 1 July, 2022: the Criminal Procedure Code and the Criminal Code. In that sense, the year was quite difficult, some provisions of those codes came into effect in 2023. It caused certain technical problems for the investigators, increased their workload. They overcame those obstacles with honor. We can say that the Criminal Procedure Code has been almost fully implemented and is being applied at a professional level by the Investigative Committee,” Mr. Arsen Ayvazyan, Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee told Iravaban.net.

He also spoke about the electronic preliminary investigation system introduced in 2023, and the investigators have started conducting investigations under cameras.

From 1 January, 2024, the investigative body of the National Security Service will join the Committee. Arsen Ayvazyan told about the expected difficulties, as well as the complications that arose during the merger of the SRC investigation and the IC. Starting from 1 January, 2024, the Committee will no longer investigate new corruption crimes. The Deputy Chairman of the IC told how it will affect the workload of the investigators.

Arsen Ayvazyan also spoke about the alarms of lawyers and human rights organizations, which referred to the use of violence and torture by the investigators. However, he noted that such cases have not been recorded.
