Anti-corruption ambassadors in the education system

In October, participants in the advanced stage of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders formed five working groups to implement five different programs.

The education group included young people of various professions: economist, lawyer, international expert, social pedagogue and pedagogue. The group drafted and decided to implement the “Anti-Corruption Ambassadors” project with innovative approaches, which envisaged conducting an online seminar with students from Gegharkunik region. During the seminars, the concept of corruption, its manifestations, types, mechanisms for preventing corruption, ethics, national anti-corruption bodies, initiatives and other topics were presented to the students.

According to Dukhine Asoyan, the coordinator of the group the choice of the education sector was made on the assumption that education is one of the three pillars of the fight against corruption. The program was implemented in Gegharkunik region, as the members of the group highlighted the importance of raising the level of civic consciousness of young people, students and awareness on anti-corruption education in the regions of Armenia.

“Why “anti-corruption ambassadors”? Because the ambassador is the person who uses his/her knowledge and skills to make countries more prosperous. In our case, the young people who took part in the training will become those ambassadors; they will use the transferred knowledge for the benefit of their community, the country,” Dukhine said, summing up the idea in the words of George Washington, “Education is the key to opening the golden door to freedom.”

As a result, the anti-corruption education group managed to involve in the program about 60 students from Gegharkunik region, who, thanks to the program, gave the start to their role in the fight against corruption.

It should be reminded that the program is implemented with the support of the Swedish Government.
