The CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia (hereinafter referred to as the Anti-Corruption Coalition), which was the advocate and co-author of the RA Law on Corruption Prevention Committee, highlighted the importance of selecting the members of the Competition Council for the election of members of the Corruption Prevention Committee by the entities entitled to form the Competition Board, namely: the Constitutional Court President, the Human Rights Defender, Opposition Factions of the RA national Assembly, Public Council and Chamber of Advocates, exclusively on competition base, constantly pointed out the thesis and stated that in the case of competitive selection of candidates will raise the confidence towards the candidates. This was also voiced by the listeners Anti-Corruption School of Young Leaders, established by the Anti-Corruption Coalition. In particular, the latter applied to the above five entities and, called on the Competition Board to conducts the election of its representative on a competitive open and public basis, as well as to meet with the students of the Anti-Corruption School Young Leaders to discuss and implement the above-mentioned commitments.
The Anti-Corruption Coalition welcomes the open competition, organized by the RA Chamber of Advocates on May 29, to select a candidate, despite the fact that the RA Law on Prevention of Corruption does not stipulate a compulsory tender. Moreover, it is a welcomed fact that the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia, has also considered as a competitive standard, the candidate’s experience in the field of anti-corruption, in addition to the professional qualification, which was the only minimal criterion for the members of the Corruption Prevention Committee. It should be noted that setting such a standard has always been one of the cornerstones of the Anti-Corruption Coalition, as it is important for a member of the Anti-Corruption Commission to possess anti-corruption experience in addition to professional experience.
The Anti-Corruption Coalition, adhering to its values and principles, will continue to exert every effort with all the impartial and professional structures in the area of anti-corruption to ensure the integrity, transparency and accountability of the Corruption Prevention Committee.
Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Coalition calls on the President of the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman, the Opposition Factions of the National Assembly and the Public Council to select their candidates for the Competition Board in an open and transparent procedure, taking into account their involvement and experience in the anti-corruption area.
