The series of public discussions on the results of Sociological Survey on Introduction of the Whistleblowers’ Institute and Whistleblowing with participation of Mr. Suren Krmoyan, Deputy Minister of Justice of the RA, the Armenian Lawyers’ Association and other representatives of the civil society has been launched.
The discussions are organized with the assistance of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association. Over four dozen representatives of non-governmental organizations actively participate in the discussions.
In the course of the meeting the participants were presented the results of the sociological survey referring the attitude of the citizens towards the whistleblowing, the negative consequences of the failure to inform, willingness to report the corruption cases and other issues.
Speaking about the results of the survey, Marat Atovmyan, a Lawyer Armenian Lawyers’ Association, noted that it is important to raise the level of legal awareness of the people on this issue.
“In many cases, the reporting (whistleblowing) is treated as “squealing” or with fabricating a case, that is, they are some psychological problems and there is much work to do for breaking stereotypes. Simply, when everything is interconnected in the state, it is difficult to make reforms in the whistleblowing system. It needs a more systematic approach and it should start from school,” he said.
Further, the participants of the initiated a discussion on the introduction of more effective mechanisms for the improvement of the anti-corruption policy and the whistleblowers’ institute.
