On 26 September, the Corporate Governance Center, the Armenian Lawyers\u2019 Association and\u00a0the Yerevan Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a discussion on “The Importance of\u00a0Collective Business Actions in the Fight against Corruption” within the framework of cooperation\u00a0of the Center for International Private Enterprise.<\/p>\n
During the roundtable the main ways and international practices of joint business activities in the\u00a0fight against corruption, as well as the possibilities of their application in Armenia were\u00a0presented.\u00a0Mr. Frank Brown, Director of the Anti-Corruption & Governance Center of CIPE and\u00a0Ms Elizabeth Lenz Jedwab, \u201cArmenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms\u201d Project\u00a0Manager, attended the discussion as well.<\/p>\n
Ms\u00a0Narine Melikyan,\u00a0President of Corporate Governance, delivered an opening speech at the
\nevent. She outlined the main ways in which businesses can work together to fight corruption.
\nMr. Frank Brown, Mr. Frank Brown, Director of the Anti-Corruption & Governance Center of\u00a0CIPE, delivered a presentation on the international experience of joint anti-corruption activities\u00a0of business.\u00a0Mr. Vladimir Amiryan, presented the role of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the fight\u00a0against corruption.<\/p>\n
Ms Mariam Zadoyan, Lawyer\/Attorney of the Armenian Lawyers\u2019 Association of (ALA),\u00a0\u201cArmenia: Promoting Anti-Corruption Conduct and Reforms\u201d Project Coordinator, presented the\u00a0intermediate results of the ALA in the scope of the project.<\/p>\n
She presented the role of the ALA in the fight against corruption and program activities,\u00a0highlighting a few points: public-private partnerships, SME training and mentoring as well as\u00a0public awareness.<\/p>\n
In the framework of the First Direction, Mariam Zadoyan presented the implemented public-
\nprivate partnerships, including:\u00a0the Government-Civil Society International Expert Conference\u00a0on the \u201cRA Anti-Corruption Strategy in Light of International Experience\u201d and 4 Roundtable\u00a0Discussions in Yerevan, Vanadzor, Gavar and Gyumri, as a result of which, the strategy\u00a0envisaged measures to promote “Adoption of anti-corruption compliance requirements in the\u00a0business sector” and “Introduction of institute of criminal liability of legal entities for corruption\u00a0offenses”.\u00a0In the scope of the SME Training and Mentoring, 75 SMEs in Yerevan, Kapan, Gyumri,\u00a0Vanadzor, Gavar have been trained in anti-corruption compliance, and a model anti-corruption\u00a0policy is currently being developed by SMEs.<\/p>\n
