{"id":4875,"date":"2019-10-02T17:24:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-02T13:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armla.am\/en\/?p=4875"},"modified":"2019-10-03T14:28:52","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T10:28:52","slug":"armenia-and-its-international-commitments-in-the-fight-against-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armla.am\/en\/4875.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenia and Its international Commitments in the Fight against Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">During the regular lesson of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders, the participants discussed the functions of international organizations in the fight against corruption, their recommendations to Armenia, and Armenia&#8217;s commitments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Mr. Narek Yenokyan, an anti-corruption expert at the Armenian Lawyers\u2019 Association, conducted the lesson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The\u00a0UN Convention\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iravaban.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/UNCAC.pdf\">Against Corruption<\/a>\u00a0is considered as a starting point\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iravaban.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/UNCAC.pdf\">in the fight against corruption<\/a>. It is worth noting that\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0the UN Convention\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iravaban.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/UNCAC.pdf\">Against Corruption<\/a>\u00a0is the first internationally accepted document that enables member states to pursue a common fight against corruption.\u00a0The second chapter of the above-mentioned Convention on the Return of Stolen Assets from the States is worth mentioning.\u00a0According to the speaker, the Armenian authorities can apply the same convention in returning assets stolen from the Republic of Armenia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In his speech, Narek Yenokyan referred to important documents such as the Jakarta Declaration on the Principles of Anti-Corruption Agencies and Kuala Lumpur&#8217;s Statement on Anti-Corruption Strategies.\u00a0He presented the function of each of the organizations that have a serious role in the fight against corruption for Armenia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Among the most prestigious international anti-corruption agencies are the Office for Combating Crime (UNODC), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd.org\/corruption\/acn\/OECD-ACN-Armenia-4th-Round-Monitoring-Report-July-2018-ENG.pdf\">OECD<\/a>), the Council of Europe&#8217;s Greco Group (<a href=\"https:\/\/rm.coe.int\/fourth-evaluation-round-corruption-prevention-in-respect-of-members-of\/1680775f12\">GRECO<\/a>) and others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Narek Yenokyan noted that the simply ratification of international treaties is not a sufficient condition for an effective fight against corruption.\u00a0According to him, it is also necessary to have a political or an institutionalized system in order to achieve tangible success in the fight against corruption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>\u201cThe Armenian Lawyers\u2019 Association\u201d NGO is organizing the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders in cooperation with the Armenian CSO Anti-Corruption Coalition.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/iravaban.net\/en\/66162.html\">Iravaban.net<\/a>\u00a0independent information website is the information partner of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During the regular lesson of the Anti-Corruption School for Young Leaders, the participants discussed the functions of international organizations in the fight against corruption, their recommendations to Armenia, and Armenia&#8217;s commitments.
