Disabled Citizens break the Corruption Chain

54-year old Hrachya Avetisyan who has permanent disability group, started his fight against corruption in September 2011 when his wife`s disability group was changed from second to third. Hrachya Avetisyan was advised by various people to give bribe and be released from excessive protraction, but he decided to fight.  With the assistance of the advocates of the Anti-Corruption Center in Yerevan Hrachya Avetisyan won the case at the first instance court. Armenuhi Arakelyan`s second group of disability was recovered. The Agency of Medical and Social Analysis appealed the verdict, the case reached the Court of Cassation, but the judicial act remained unchanged. In parallel Hrachya Avetisyan was called for reexamination.

Later on Hrachya Avetisyan was present at the court not as an authorized person, but as a plaintiff. In June 2014 the first instance court satisfied his claim. In August the court verdict entered into force and Hrachya Avetisyan`s disability group was recovered. These disabled citizens break the corruption chain with their struggle.

On the International Anti-Corruption Day for his principled stance and activity in the protection of violated rights Hrachya Avetisyan got the award “Citizien of the Year”.
